The Archaeology Department of Kerala
The Department of Archaeology has been actively engaged in scientifically conducting archaeological excavation and explorations, conservation of Proto-historical, medieval and historical monuments, thereby preserving and protecting these cultural centres. All Museums are under the Department of Archaeology. A Glimpse into the History of the Department The Archaeology Department of Kerala was established in 1962 under the Government of Kerala. Since its inception, it has been dedicated to the systematic study, survey excavation and protection of monuments, and preservation of historical sites, monuments, and folk art studies, numismatics, publication, etc. The department operates under the Cultural Affairs Ministry of Kerala and has been instrumental in bringing to light the state’s ancient civilizations, trade connections, and cultural practices.
